HCSO CITIZENS ACADEMY
Applications are accepted on an on-going basis for the spring session (March-May) and the fall session (September-November) conducted each year. Classes typically meet on Thursday nights from 6:30-9:30p.m. at the Sheriff's Office in Noblesville.

Virtual Citizen's Academy
Program Goals
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is a unique opportunity to learn first hand how the Sheriff's Office functions and to experience some of the training offered to deputies. The Citizens Academy is designed to promote positive community relations and to provide communications between citizens and law enforcement officials.

Classroom Sessions
Most sessions will consist of classroom discussions along with demonstrations and hands-on practical experiences so participants better understand the many roles and functions of the Sheriff's Office. Academy participants will also be offered opportunities to go on a "ride-along" with a deputy on service patrol as well as to observe the jail staff in action.
Program Details
The Citizens Academy runs for 11 weeks with instruction provided by members of the Sheriff's Office who are qualified in each area of expertise. After completion of the Academy, participants will receive a certificate during a graduation ceremony.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is not designed to, nor will it in any way, bestow law enforcement authority upon participants.
Participation Requirements
To attend, participants must:

Be a minimum of 18 years of age (no upper age limit)

Live and/or work in Hamilton County, Indiana
-
Have no felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions within 1 year prior to application (background checks will be performed)

Commit to attend each session lasting approximately 3 hours

Sign any required waivers and agreements

Citizens from all walks of life are encouraged to apply

There is no charge to attend the Citizens Academy
Class size is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may be submitted any time and a waiting list is kept if maximum class size.
